Molas on the Move

On the Guna Yala islands off the coast of Panama, people were far removed from the modern world and perpetuated their way of life and art in many ways. An important part of their culture is their style of dress, which includes a blouse for women that has a panel on the front and back.  Each panel is an original work of art, proudly worn by its creator. As visitors began to come to the island in the twentieth century, the mola artists have been inspired by things they brought with them that they had never seen before. Examples in this book include many different modes of transportation.
